Mind Your Midlife: Confidence and Success, One Thought at a Time, with Cheryl Fischer

Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now. You’ve read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix. But what if personal development could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change? What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of trudging through and wishing for the weekend? As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of women in midlife find success and confidence. This transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now. Join us each week as Cheryl, her guests, and her clients share with you how to feel confident in your body, your decisions, and your goals - and create a midlife that you love. Sometimes we hit a wall; we hit burnout.  It seems as if we don't have any options or choices about our job or our life style or our day-to-day lives.

We do have choices. There is a way to recover from burnout.

Sita McKee, Nurse and Boldness Coach, joins me today to talk about the steps to take as we move from burnout to living boldly and without as much fear.

What are those steps? Social connections, a social support network, meditation, physical activity and care of our bodies, and faith or coaching. These are powerful ways to move forward, minimize the fear, and create something amazing in your life.  Mindset is truly the key.

Our words have power.  They have power when we communicate with other people and they have power because we are also communicating with ourselves.

If you catch yourself always saying that you can't do something or you're not like this or that, you are reflecting your subconscious beliefs.  Usually these descriptions (about being late or disorganized, for example) can be changed if you want to make the changes.

Awareness is the first step.  Listen to your common phrases.  Do you criticize yourself in these ways?  Could you say it differently - or maybe not say that part at all?  Think about it.

Stay tuned for my next masterclass - How to Stop Being Your Own Worst Enemy.  We'll dive further into this topic and you'll leave with practical ways you can grow.  Head over to www.omgteachme.com and subscribe so that you don't miss the announcement coming soon!

You feel sluggish, grumpy, you forgot why you even came into the room, and now your pants are tight... perimenopause and menopause can be a challenging period in a woman's life!
Alison Bladh, Nutritional Therapist, joins me today to help us make sense of menopause and the weight gain that we may struggle with.
We'll review why menopause symptoms occur (estrogen dropping, insulin spikes, stress hormones, and appetite are all part of the picture) and we'll talk about what we can do to minimize the weight gain we are trying to avoid.
Alison shares that nourishing foods, portion control, lots of protein, and breaks between meals are powerful ways to feel great and minimize the change in our bodies.
Episode 17 on gut health and episode 33 on easy healthy cooking are the perfect episodes to listen to along with this one!

If you are like me and you've held off from sharing good news about awards and accomplishments because you were worried that you would sound conceited or sound like you're bragging, listen up.

The people in our lives want to hear about the good things that happen to us, just like they want to support us during the bad.  Speaking out about those achievements and good things feeds your brain to empower you and that is a very healthy mindset loop as well.

So next time you earn something cool, tell a friend.

As you start to experience more mindset transformation, a key practice will be setting your intentions.  This could be your intention for the day, for a meeting, for a goal, for your business, for a relationship... so many things.
Setting an intention means deciding first how the experience is going to go.  Decide BEFORE moving forward, and then you create a scenario where your actions will be more aligned with the results you were hoping for.
Intentional living is going to require some self-awareness of subconscious programming that may hold you back.  Let's talk about why it's worth it.
Setting your intentions first is also going to help you move away from a focus on rules and restrictions.  Does what you're doing align with the attention? If so, do it!
Make sure to grab your mini-series and stop self-sabotaging, because this goes right along with creating intentions and moving ahead with them.  www.bit.ly/empoweredselftalk

Body language is called a language because we are communicating to other people with the way we hold our bodies and how we take up space.  In one of my favorite Ted Talks, Amy Cuddy says that we are also communicating with ourselves.

It feels very different to make ourselves small versus flinging our arms wide or standing up tall.  What if you can change the way you are standing or sitting and then hold that position for a few minutes, and then feel completely empowered after doing so?

If you're anything like me, you've heard that meditation is powerful and you've thought about trying it, but you don't really know how to get started.  What is the right way to meditate? Why is meditation so powerful for mindfulness? Is it really a self-care strategy that you should make time for?

Let's talk about it.

Angela Smith, Meditation Teacher, joins me on today's episode to explain how meditation is powerful for our brains and our mind-body connection.  She explains this with a metaphor of trains coming and going at a train station - and that picture will help so much to clarify why a few minutes each day to meditate is worth your time.

Angela walks us through silent meditation, her favorite meditation app, and also a five senses meditation to use while walking (that I think you'll love).

Find Angela on Instagram at @_thetravelingmind and check out her website at www.sayhellocollective.com.  Follow and stay tuned for the meditation offers she mentioned!

It's so common for us to sit too long at work and to have basically a sedentary lifestyle.  You may workout regularly (I do), but does that mean that you are getting enough movement in your daily life?  It often doesn't.

Let's talk about the health issues that come from sitting too much at work and during each day: higher risk of heart disease, obesity, stress, and more.

And then let's talk about what you can do.  You can add movement at lunchtime and every hour.  You can plan activities with friends that involve movement.  You can take the stairs!  It all adds up.

Whether you're in a long relationship or a new one, there are some principles that will help us all navigate the journey of keeping our romantic relationships healthy and strong.

Dr. Jackie Black joins me this week to share her expertise on midlife relationships.  Are you falling victim to "best friend syndrome" or are you still a "we" with healthy intimacy?  Let's talk about it.

Dr. Jackie shares some excellent tips on what we can do to foster healthy communication in midlife relationships - like physical touch every day, surprises for each other, affirming words, and setting aside time for conversation that is intentional.

Try some of these ideas and let us know what changes you see!

We lose touch with people.  We wonder if it's a good idea to reach out to an old friend, or a colleague we haven't spoken to in a while, or a family member we haven't seen in a long time.

It's a good idea.

Let's talk about why that person may have popped into your head, why it's a good idea to follow your gut feeling or instinct, and how to reach out.  This is not about wanting something from them; this is about brightening someone's day like yours would be if this were to happen to you.
