Mind Your Midlife: Confidence and Success, One Thought at a Time, with Cheryl Fischer
Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now. You’ve read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix. But what if personal development could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change? What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of trudging through and wishing for the weekend? As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of women in midlife find success and confidence. This transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now. Join us each week as Cheryl, her guests, and her clients share with you how to feel confident in your body, your decisions, and your goals - and create a midlife that you love. When you are upset - or happy - are you truly feeling that emotion because of your desires and your personal like and dislikes? Or are you upset because you are worried about what you think other people will think? Are you happy because of what you think other people will think?
Truly feeling your feelings that come from your desires and beliefs and your thoughts about your life is powerful. But allowing in feelings that you've created because of what you think others say or think about you is allowing them to be in charge of you. And we never really know what others think anyway, do we?
Let's talk about it.

Alex Alexander from Friendship IRL podcast joins me this week and you will leave this episode with some easy and powerful tips for nurturing your friend relationships and understanding that we can continue to make new friends as well.
I found this conversation absolutely comforting since I know I'm not perfect as a friend! None of us are.

How do you interact with people when you walk by them in a public place?
If it's safe to do so, I challenge you to pick your head up, look them in the eye, and smile as you walk by. Let's talk about why (hint: lower stress, more confidence, and a ripple effect...)
Research has shown that the act of smiling - even if you're not happy in the moment - has physical benefits. So smile and pass it on.

Do you have to do lists swirling around in your head? Or maybe you have them swirling around on sticky notes like I sometimes do? Does that make you feel constantly stressed and "too busy"?

Processing emotions is difficult stuff - and it's really important for our mental and physical health.
We know that we shouldn't ignore our feelings or stuff them down so we forget about them, but what can we do otherwise?
Here's where EFT Tapping helps me. When I'm feeling sad or angry, I do a few rounds of silent tapping. Tapping uses acupressure points to clear the energy flow in our bodies and that helps us to process and move through emotions.
Make sure to listen to Episode 9 of OMG Teach Me where we talked all about what tapping is and how it can help you - with mood, success, processing feelings, and more.
