Mind Your Midlife: Confidence and Success, One Thought at a Time, with Cheryl Fischer
Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now. You’ve read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix. But what if personal development could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change? What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of trudging through and wishing for the weekend? As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of women in midlife find success and confidence. This transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now. Join us each week as Cheryl, her guests, and her clients share with you how to feel confident in your body, your decisions, and your goals - and create a midlife that you love. Perspective is powerful. We all look at the world through a lens of our own experiences and our own core beliefs - about how the world works, our abilities, what's possible, etc.
So, how can we change that perspective if we see that we're holding ourselves back or if we'd like to grow and change?
We can use powerful questions.
Luann Horobin, Executive & Leadership Coach, joins me today to explain what exactly powerful questions are - and why they can help us.
If you think about it, you may fall into the same trap I do sometimes in which I'm asking myself, "Why can't I do that?" or "Why doesn't this ever work?" If our brains set out to find the answers to the questions we ask (they do), then asking questions like those is just going to bring us answers about why we CAN'T.
Listen in to find out how to ask questions that help us figure out why and how we CAN.
Make sure to connect with Luann on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/luannhorobin/.
If this topic is fascinating for you like it is for me, catch episode 76 about intuition and asking questions as well.

Do you get creative ideas or solve a tough problem while doing something else, like walking, showering, driving, doing the dishes, etc.? I definitely do.
Today I'm sharing with you WHY that happens (hint: your subconscious brain is occupied), and HOW to actually remember that great idea that can flit away quickly.
I like to text myself! :)
We can also throw it all the way back to episode 2 and the benefits of walking, because the two things are very much linked.
Let me know what you do to remember your great ideas! www.bit.ly/omgspeaktome and come join me in the beta FREE coaching community www.bit.ly/leadingladyenergy.

When you get dressed in the morning, do you think about how you are presenting yourself throughout the day? Are you happy with what you see?
Cyndy Porter of Success Thru Style joins me today to help us figure out what a personal brand it and how to create that with style choices.
You'll hear us talk about choosing five adjectives to describe how you'd like to come across to the world - and then how to put that in practice with your clothing and accessories choices. I found this to be such a fun discussion!
We're building on what Amanda and I talked about in episode 12, so grab that link to listen again: https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-zsuc5-1451259

If you are picking up a sport or activity for fun... for relaxation... for moving your body, and you don't necessarily want to compete at a high level, are you able to also avoid being overly pessimistic and negative when the game doesn't go so well?
I catch myself regularly being WAY too hard on myself when just playing a friendly game - and in today's episode I'm talking about golf and pickleball, for example.
What we speak about and expect is what our brains look for. So, if you are expecting not to be very good at something, your brain is going to be hard at work making sure to find you evidence that that's true!
Probably that's not what you'd ideally like to happen...
Let's talk about it.
I would love to hear from you! Have you noticed this tendency in yourself? Have a question? Have some sports psychology input? Leave me a voice note at bit.ly/omgspeaktome.

Do you wake up ready to enjoy the day or do you wake up with dread and worry?
We all have some bad days, but if your thought habit is to immediately spiral into worry thoughts as soon as you open your eyes, this habit will affect your energy, you mood, your personal interactions, and even your health over time.
The good news? You can change your morning attitude habit.
This week I'm walking you through a very simple morning routine that will shift your mindset to be open and ready for a good day.

Do you struggle with how to trust your instincts? I have a treat for you today - listener feedback! Jill from the US shared that she often struggles between trusting her gut and listening to her intuition versus being empathetic and looking at things from another perspective.
Check out the Take Five episode two weeks ago on empathy that she is responding to.
I'm a reality competition show fan, so I threw in an observation from The Bachelorette as well. :) If you are struggling between trusting your intuition in decision-making and being "nice" because we should, let intuition win every time.

We all want to sleep through the night, or even fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, or even be able to get back to sleep easily when we wake up, right?
Cherie Tripp joined me for episode 22 of OMG Teach Me (listen here) and gave some great tips for sleep hygiene and healthy sleep. After that episode, questions came up about hunger at night. What should we do if we wake up hungry?
Well, there's an easy answer: hydrate.
Listen in for a listener's story as she tried (and then stopped trying) better hydration during the day to help her sleep at night.
Make sure you follow some of the habits before bed that I'm sharing today as well!

In this episode, we explore the power of perspective and how our experiences, beliefs, and personalities shape how we see the world. Learn why a change of perspective can transform relationships, improve communication, and help us realize that we often don’t know the full story—whether on social media, at work, or in personal life.
Whether you have challenging relationships in your professional life or person life, or you simply want to be a better communicator and have more empathy, let's talk about the power of perspective to do exactly that.
