Mind Your Midlife: Confidence and Success, One Thought at a Time, with Cheryl Fischer
Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now. You’ve read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix. But what if personal development could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change? What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of trudging through and wishing for the weekend? As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of women in midlife find success and confidence. This transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now. Join us each week as Cheryl, her guests, and her clients share with you how to feel confident in your body, your decisions, and your goals - and create a midlife that you love. Music has power - let's talk about how that works!
Music and emotions are our topic this week, and Cilia Antoniou of Self Expressed Babe joins me to share her expertise.
We're talking about:
music and memories and how they are tied in our brains with emotions,
the power of allowing space to express your emotions, whatever they may be,
how music helps us release shame and know that it's ok to feel the way we do,
how movement and music - and the vibrations of live music - affect our bodies and our minds... and so much more!
You'll be ready to grab those concert tickets after this episode - and you'll really see my math nerd heart when Cilia remembers an algebra formula from school that was set to Pop Goes the Weasel. ;)
Make sure to connect with Cilia on Instagram at @selfexpressedbabe, Facebook as Cilia Antoniou, and on her website at selfexpressedbabe.com. We had so much fun with this discussion!

Emotional eating is something that many of us struggle with often. There is a comfort aspect to food that originates when we are babies and often continues throughout life.
We also might struggle to recognize, validate or feel our emotions - and turn to things like food to provide the comfort, protection or distraction that we want.
We might use food to cope with stress or turn to binge eating to try to cover up other things that we don't want to face.
Dr. Nina Savelle-Rocklin joins me on this episode to share why these things happen. Where does the link between food and emotions come from and what can we do to change our patterns?
Whether you've dealt with binge eating - or you simply know that sometimes food is your comfort mechanism - this episode will give you some tools to create a healthier relationship with food. Dr. Nina talks us through her VARY method - Validate, Acknowledge, Reassure Yourself.
This episode ends on such a powerful note - make sure to listen to the end!

The holiday season - and winter in general - can be a tough time for our mental state, stress levels, and attitude in general. We might be stressed, we might have some difficult issues to deal with, we might be overwhelmed with family or events.
So, how can we incorporate gratitude and try to stay in a healthy mindset in spite of all of that?
This week's episode gives you two tools:
Be present and watch for glimmers. Glimmers are moments of joy that have a powerful effect in our lives.
Send love and appreciation out to people who have hurt or annoyed you. This is powerful for your own mindset and maybe theirs too.
Neither of these things takes significant time and both have significant impact.
Make sure you catch any of these episodes that I mentioned that you may have missed:
Ep. 26: How to Be Present and Remember Their Names… Yes You Can
Ep. 1: How and Why to Raise Your Vibration
Ep. 3: Do You Express Your Gratitude? (Gratitude Part 1)
Ep. 4: The Secret to Living in Gratitude (Gratitude Part 2)

Money doesn't grow on trees. Money is the root of all evil. If you have debt, you must be a bad person or irresponsible with money...
We hear so many different sayings and views on money as we go through life, and many of these views get saved into our subconscious as beliefs about money.
If you believe deep down that money makes people greedy and bad, you can bet that you won't be able to make much money in life. Your brain will protect you from that.
In week 2 of our Money Miniseries, Karen Mullins joins me to talk through money mindset.
Last week we learned how to budget, prioritize spending, payoff debt, and more - make sure you've listened to episode 29!
This week we'll learn what's underneath it all. What is your relationship with money? Is money actually good or bad? What should we call debt instead of using the word debt (and why doesn't the concept of a mortgage bother us)?
Karen and I dive into all of this in a great discussion!
Make sure to connect with Karen on Instagram at @adventuresinawareness, and reach out to her anytime by email at support@karenmullinscoaching.com.
You can also listen to the previous episode Karen and I created together (episode 6) about why sometimes we aren't getting results when we're doing all the things we thought we should.

Is budgeting all about deprivation and guilt? Or could it be a way to make sure we are living the life we really want to live?
My guest this week says that how we handle our money is absolutely about making sure we get to do exactly what we want in life! Katie Van Wyngarden from Fearless Finance joins me to change our perspective on budgeting and managing money.
Listen in to hear:
It's not about quitting your Starbucks habit! ;)
You can start with a few easy items.
Make sure to celebrate the small goals achieved.
And financial planning and budgeting is about MINDSET.

You've dealt with burnout... whether it was career burnout, mental health burnout, relationship burnout... sometimes we need to recover from hitting bottom and try to figure out where to go next and what burnout recovery looks like.
Sabrina Del Duca joins me this week on OMG Teach Me to share her powerful story of overcoming career burnout, finding a job and a calling that light her up, and how she made it through her self-discovery journey.
You'll hear us talk about the challenges of feeling stuck, of trying not to "should" on ourselves, of being in emotional territory that feels heavy, and of dealing with physical signs and symptoms like aches and pains.
The good news? If you can apply some curiosity and allow yourself to be open to your intuition and creativity - and use emotion as your superpower - you can find a way forward. We'll address the practical issues that come along with that as well.
Make sure to connect with Sabrina on Instagram as @duchesssabrina and at her website, www.sabrinadelduca.com to find out about all the options she offers to help you. You'll love her podcast as well - Get into Flow (@getintoflowpodcast on Instagram).

Working from home in your pajamas? Or making sure to always be "camera ready" no matter what?
Let's talk about why it matters whether we get dressed each day. This week we're talking about enclothed cognition and how our minds and bodies react to wearing certain clothes (and to other people wearing certain clothes). While you might be able to get away with laying around in pjs, it may not be the best choice if you are going for productivity, confidence, and empowerment in your day.
It's all about mindset and our habits of thinking (isn't everything?), so listen in and then let me know whether you've struggled with any of the issues I mention!

Have you ever met a new person and experienced how good it feels when they use your name in the conversation? Did you feel valued and appreciated? You probably did.
This week, Lisa Joy Glassman of Active Potential joins me to talk about living in the present moment and how learning to do that can make our interactions with people (and our ability to remember names) even more powerful.
You'll hear us talk about:
looking for the joy every day - for those glimmers that are powerful,
leaving the blaming and shaming about regrets behind and living in the present,
how to truly see and connect with people (hint: actually look them in the eye),
why using someone's name is such an indicator of how we value them, and
practical tips for staying in the present, like touch and breathwork.
Lisa Joy offers a Breathing 101 course to continue deeper into these ideas. Make sure to find that at her website, www.activepotential.com. You'll find free videos and a guide to eliminating chronic pain as well.

You decide to get in shape, or lose (release) weight, or make a life change... and a few weeks into it you get frustrated. It seems as if nothing is changing, and you find yourself falling back into old habits.
Why? Your nervous system is signaling to you that it's not safe to make that change.
Let's talk about weight loss and safety. Your nervous system is in control and is working from ideas you absorbed when you were a child - about whether exercise is good or is punishment and about how it's ok to look or act.
There is a mind-body connection regarding healthy living and we're breaking that down to help you to understand it - and giving some tips for regulating your nervous system as well. Wellness and the autonomic nervous system is a key area of study right now, and you'll see why from my guest Meggie Martin, of Strong as a Mother.
Connect with Meggie on Instagram and check out all her programs at meggiemartin.com. Find Jessica Maguire on Instagram to find out more about the nervous system as well.
