Mind Your Midlife: Confidence and Success, One Thought at a Time, with Cheryl Fischer

Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now. You’ve read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix. But what if personal development could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change? What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of trudging through and wishing for the weekend? As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of women in midlife find success and confidence. This transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now. Join us each week as Cheryl, her guests, and her clients share with you how to feel confident in your body, your decisions, and your goals - and create a midlife that you love. It's week 3 of our three week *know yourself* series!
This week is about one of my favorite ways to understand our personalities, motivations, and fears... and that is the enneagram.  Take a look at the picture below as you listen in today.

Wendy Montgomery, Life Coach, joins me today to walk through each of the 9 enneagram types.  We're adding special emphasis on the core fears, core motivations, wounding messages, and healing messages for each type - and I believe this is where you'll get some powerful information helping you to recognize yourself and your loved ones.

The enneagram can inform your decision making, your relationships, and your self image.  If you think you've recognized yourself in one or a few of these types, make sure to reach out to Wendy at www.wendymontgomery.com or on social media at @wendymontcoach on Instagram or Facebook.  Wendy recommends the IEQ9 Enneagram test and can connect you with the information.

Robin S sings, "Words are so easy to say... You've got to show me love!"
How do you show love (or appreciation or friendship)?
Often we express our love in the ways that we like to receive love.  It's so much more powerful and meaningful if we express love in the way that the other person best feels and receives it.
And that brings us to Gary Chapman's Five Love Languages:
Words of Affirmation
Quality Time
Receiving Gifts
Acts of Service
Physical Touch
This week we're talking about what each of these love languages means, how to figure out what your own primary love language is, and how to express yourself to others with these languages.
Make sure to go to www.5lovelanguages.com for resources to find out your love language.  Grab the main love language book at www.omgteachme.com/read.

Today!
It happens to be a Take Five Friday and also International Women's Day, so I have a couple of quick messages for you as we celebrate the achievements of women.
We have come SOOOO far as women.  Just take a look back 50 to 100 years and you can absolutely see the gains.
Women's Day is not Anti-Men Day.
Are you the main character in your life? Of all the things we do to hold ourselves back, this is one of the ones that I get most passionate about. You are the main character in your life.  You are in charge.  You get to decide.  You get to dream.  And you get to achieve what you want.
Find the book The Gap and The Gain here and find all the podcast info, special offers, music lists and episodes at www.omgteachme.com. Let's connect at @omgteachme on Instagram as well.
I'll see you here every Tuesday and Friday!

Leadership - let's talk about it.

Every single person who has the desire to do so can be a leader.  We lead ourselves, and we can choose to lead others - whether we have a title that says so or not.

Breanne Sufrin of The Leadership HQ joins me today to talk about leadership.  We'll look at what the key skills are that leaders need (communication, confidence, and the ability to handle conflict).

We'll walk through the Gallup StrengthsFinder and what your top (and bottom) traits can tell you about yourself.  Any of the strengths can be powerful assets to you as a leader.

Develop your inner confidence, understand the power of communication, and realize that healthy conflict is a sign that you've created a leadership situation that is open to discussion and communication with your team, and you are well on your way to success.

This is also week 1 of a three part series on understanding ourselves, so stay tuned for episode 50 on love languages and episode 51 on the enneagram.

Find the Gallup StrengthsFinder book, The 16 Undeniable Laws of Communication (Maxwell), The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (Maxwell), and The Leader Who Had No Title (Sharma) at www.omgteachme.com/read.

Friday Mar 01, 2024

Friday Mar 01, 2024

Welcome to your Friday Take Five moment! Each week I'll share a short episode for you with smart tips, life lessons, funny stories, or empowering quotes.

I think we all need a quick boost sometimes.  Make sure to share this with others - grab a screen shot and share on your social media.

Let's talk about glimmers - if we can train our brains to look for tiny moments of joy and happiness throughout the day, our brains start to do that more and more often.  And guess what happens?  We see and feel more and more moments of joy and happiness.

I'm in if you are.

I feel like I'm disappearing... Who am I?

Midlife can be a time of feeling a little bit lost.  The ways that we organized our days and determined our value may be changing.  The world may see us differently (can you say ageism?).

No matter what... no matter when... we are worthy.  Worthiness is the quality of being good enough.  We have value, and we matter.

Worthiness coach Jillie Johnston joins me today to chat about worthiness in midlife, and you will leave this episode with a process you can start doing right now to validate your feelings, figure out what you'd love to hear and say, and move toward joy in your life every day.  Awesome.

Make sure to connect with Jillie on Instagram at @jilliejohnstoncoaching and at www.jilliejohnston.com (and you can sign up for her email there as well). Listen to The Worthiness Mindset Podcast on Apple here or wherever you get your podcasts.

Thursday Feb 22, 2024

Are you familiar with hypnotherapy? Have you ever been hypnotized?

The power of hypnosis to change life-long patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting is truly amazing.  Clinical Hypnotherapist Andrew Bennett joins me today to explain what hypnosis is and how and why this is such a powerful form of therapy.

I have seen hypnotherapy work in some amazing situations with multiple people, so let's make sure we understand the brain science behind it.  If you're a brain science nerd like me, you'll love this episode.  And even if you're not, you'll want to know about this powerful option for making your life better.

Doesn't it feel like everyone either has a strong opinion on gluten or is simply confused about what gluten is and why it's an issue?

Let's clear up the story on gluten this week!

I'm walking you through what gluten is, where it comes from, and how it has changed.  We'll talk about celiac disease, gluten allergies and gluten sensitivity.  We'll talk about how you can figure out how gluten affects your body (because we're all different).  I'll share my story of discovering that gluten makes me sleepy, truly!

The key? Gluten in moderation as part of a whole food-based healthy and balanced way of eating that includes vegetables, protein, healthy fats and healthy carbs might be fine for you.  Or, your body may not handle gluten well at all.

The best thing you can do is find out.

Then we'll talk about gluten-free foods and gluten-free alternatives, because they have their place but they aren't necessarily any healthier.

I hope you walk away from this episode with clarity about the mystery of gluten - and knowing how to find out more for yourself.  Share this with someone who'd also like to understand!

Catch episode 17 with Dr. Katie Collier on gut health here, episode 33 on easy healthy cooking with Jessica Mitchell here, and episode 37 on what healthy means with Lesley Zwick here.

If only we knew that our paths would be smooth and without any pitfalls or challenges...
OR
What if the pitfalls and challenges are where we find the growth?  What we if we look back and see that the challenge was the way we created new skills or turned in a new direction that turned out to be amazing?

Jorge Gonzalez, author of Answer the Call, joins me on this episode to talk about how we make it through the challenging times and what fulfillment is all about.  I'd love for you to take away from this discussion that it is powerful to listen to your intuition / your faith / your gut, and it does matter who we spend time around and how we lift each other up, and even more importantly, the major growth that happens in life is almost always outside our comfort zones.

You can find Jorge on Instagram at @jorge_v_gonzalez and you can find his book on Amazon .  Make sure to take a look!

Head over to episode 28 here or on your favorite podcast app and let's talk about following that voice in our heads and hearts as well.
